Director of HR, Americas Retardants

Position Summary:

The Director of Human Resources, Americas Retardants, is a leadership position within the Americas Retardants Business Unit, which includes the development, manufacture and sale of fire retardants to fight wildfires. The Director of HR will have full responsibility for the management of the human resources function within the business unit. This role is a mix of tactical and strategic responsibilities and involves overseeing the day-to-day activities of the Human Resources department, across 4 manufacturing facilities and supporting field operations spread out across over 40 airbase locations.  

This role provides critical support in  the development and execution of the business unit’s strategy, goals and organizational vision. Specifically, the Director of Human Resources will be responsible for the development and execution of Human Resources strategies that align with broader company goals, including performance and talent management, talent acquisition and development, cost efficiency, employee engagement, and compliance with policies, guidelines and regulations. The Director of Human Resources is expected to bring a hands-on approach to tactical activities as well as vision and energy to provide clear guidance and structure, mentoring, and management to the human resources function within the Business Unit.

This position will report into a senior executive within the Fire Safety Platform.


LOCATION: Rancho Cucamonga, CA or Post Falls, Idaho (can be located at either site, ability to travel to sites on a regular basis)


Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the human resources function generally within the business unit providing guidance and oversight over activities at the business unit’s manufacturing sites at Sacramento, CA, Rancho Cucamonga, CA, and Post Falls, ID. The Director of HR will oversee an HR business partner at the company’s manufacturing site at Rancho Cucamonga, CA. Responsibilities will include overseeing and engaging in payroll activities, support of employee benefits, compensation and 401k programs and talent acquisition and development activities.
  • Partner with senior business unit leaders (President, COO, Controller) on discussions on Human Resources strategic vision and goals that align with the business unit’s objectives. Strategic initiatives include executing on the company’s operational value driver strategy, and building a successful talent acquisition and development program within the business unit.
  • Be the go-to partner for the BU leadership team on culture, talent, organizational design and people/HR strategy.
  • Assist the business unit’s annual merit and performance review and succession planning processes
  • Help build a strong, unified culture by recommending employee relations practices that promote a high level of employee engagement and morale.
  • Direct organizational development, specifically designing and implementing a comprehensive performance management strategy across the business unit aligned with business objectives and growth strategies.
  • Identify cost efficiency and productivity initiatives within the human resources department. Implement and track HR projects against timelines and budget.


Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree, preferably in relevant field (e.g. Human Resources, Business Administration)
  • Specialized skills in organizational planning, compensation, performance and talent management a plus.
  • Generalist background with broad knowledge of employment, compensation, organizational planning, employee relations, and training and development.
  • Strong management and communication skills.
  • 8-10 years’ experience in human resources, increasing responsibility within the human resources department is required. HR leadership in a manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Regular travel to company sites expected
  • Proficiency with general computer skills.
  • SHRM-CP or PHR a plus
  • Additional language skills (Spanish) a plus
